Guest guest
Greetings, all, I have a patient who originally came to me for back pain, which is gone now, but asked for help with her marijuana usage. Although I've found research on using CM with addiction to opiates and " harder " drugs, I've not found much on it's use to curb marijuana cravings. Does anyone have any clinical experience with this they'd care to share? Have you found particular herbs or formulas to be helpful (I would go for LR movers to start, xiao yao wan, etc., in general, but maybe I'm missing something more specific to marijuana) or just proceeded according to pattern differentiation? I can post more particulars of the case tomorrow, but I don't have her chart in front of me. (In general terms, the back pain seemed to have been a LU qi/KI yang deficiency. The LU had been damaged by long-term smoking, there were also probably some pre-heaven issues--she has Marfan syndrome and some structural abnormalities. She complains of poor circulation, too. In addition to herbs some qi gong and yogic breathing exercises were very helpful.) BTW, she says she uses marijuana (no longer smoking it, but eating cookies or brownies) to slow down her brain, not so much to de-stress. Othewise her brain races from when she wakes up until when she goes to sleep. Many thanks for any input. Best wishes, Sarah Sarah E. Rivkin, MS, LAc, Dipl. Guest guest
Hi Sarah, A " racing brain " in western terms is a common symptom of certain types of ADD / ADHD. Dr. Daniel Amen lists six different types of ADD in his book " Stopping ADD " . I find it interesting that different types show different pattern differentiation, HT & LV disharmony for example or SP involvement with over thinking. KD is responsible for the marrow and thus filling up the brain. All sorts of variables exist. I am a huge proponent of Auricular therapy and would check out Teri Olsen's protocol for #1 addiction (NADA) and #2 his treatment for ADD. Dr. Bryon Frank and Nader Soloman have an addiction protocol in their Atlas of Auricular Therapy as well. With microcurrent I usually get good results within the first week, sleeping better, not so anxious etc. Any thing that soothes the LV obviously will help with withdraw S & S in addition to supplements that act as an antioxidant is going to be a huge benefit, green tea, Co Q-10... Best of luck to you! Ann E. - Sarah Rivkin<saydit To: < > Sunday, April 29, 2007 7:56 PM curbing marijuana cravings w/ CM? Guest guest
Thanks, Ann, I forgot to mention that we did do a NADA treatment last week, which she loved. I've been thinking about ADHD as well. Flaws & Lake have a good chapter on it in their psychiatry book, which I'm just reviewing now. Many thanks, --Sarah , " ANN Johnson " <annesloft wrote: > > Hi Sarah, > > A " racing brain " in western terms is a common symptom of certain types of ADD / ADHD.
