Guest guest
I have heard recently that " qing hao su " can be an effective preventative treatment for malaria. Since there is mixed info on the web I ask: 1) Is Qing Hao Su just an extract of Qing Hao ? If so any ideas of ratio? and could someone just boil up some qing hao (if effective see question #3) 2) Can you get it anywhere? 3) Does anyone know of research that proves this to be an effective prophylactic treatment, dosage? Thanks, -Jason <Chinese Medicine> <Chinese Medicine> tel: <http://www.plaxo.com/click_to_call?src=jj_signature & To=303.545.5792+x102 & Em ail=> www.Chinese Medicine <https://www.plaxo.com/add_me?u=30064918855 & v0=295000 & k0=1975548621> Add me to your address book... <http://www.plaxo.com/signature> Want a signature like this? Guest guest
Qing Hao Su is artemisinin. When a formula has the word " su " in it, it is typically a single compound isolated from the herb. For example, Huang Lian Su is berberine. - Bill ............................................. Bill Schoenbart, L.Ac. P.O. Guest guest
Qing Hao Su or artemisinin is also used against cancer (specifically leukemia and colon cancer). http://www.drlam.com/A3R_brief_in_doc_format/Artemisinin.cfm David Russell, L.Ac., CMT www.acuherbal.com
Guest guest
Jason, My understanding is that qing hao " su " is the isolated arteminisin...thus a pharmaceutical drug. However, this has been one of the traditional uses for the herb so there you have it. Given what we know about bio-chemical synergism in herb formulas, I would guess that a properly constructed herb formula might be more effective than the Rx. yours, dr.w
Guest guest
I don¹t know if this is helpful, but I emailed Jim Duke about this very topic. He didn¹t know the most effective dosage, but he did forward this: Here's stuff I blindly lifted from the literature DOSAGES (SWEET WORMWOOD): General dosages; 4.5 - 9 g pl in decoction (FAY); For malaria, 3 g pl juice/day (FAY); 30 g plant (dry lf) or decoction (FAY) 10-20 g/day dry herb or 20-40 ml fluid extract (1:2) (for all KEB¹s Chinese posologies, these ratios apply) (KEB); higher doses suggested for malaria and lupus (KEB); 50 mg/kg artemisinin for 3 days (KEB); 300 mg/day artemisinin for 50 days for SLE or 30-54 g herb/day.for malaria 500-1,000 mg artemisinin (on first day, 500 mg day for 4 more days (LYM); for Babesia, 300 mg/day artemisinin. A quart infusion of 9 g flowering tops contains 95 mg artemisinin (LYM), a gin tincture of the same amount or crushed herb should contain the same amount of artemisinin, a bit tastier and better extracted with lemon juice and tonic water.
