Dear David and Are,

 

I would agree that L-Lysine can be very effective against genital herpes, (as

is zinc also, BTW), HOWEVER, it is equally important to AVOID the more yang

amino acid: L-Arginine. L-Arginine is required by the herpes simplex virus to

reproduce. Lysine reduces arginine metabolism thereby reducing the activity of

the herpes simplex virus. There do not seem to be any side effects to taking

lysine. To be effective lysine must be taken at fairly high doses, 1 g three

times a day. Foods high in L-Arginine include chocolate, nuts, wheat germ and

flour, buckwheat, granola, oatmeal, dairy products (including yogurt) , seeds,

poultry, seafood, chick peas, and cooked soybeans.
