It seems that much of our disagreement on our discussions of pathomechanisms

is merely due to people having different understanding of what the term

means. Here is a link to a short essay that I wrote for a class in 2006.

Chinese Medicine/index.php?page=Chinese_Medicine_Articles

(it is the 3rd article down)

It is a rough draft, but I think it is illustrative. It basically defines

the 3 Chinese terms, " cause of disease (bing yin) " , " pathomechanisms (bing

ji) " , and " Breakout of illness (fa bing) " It is essentially is a translation

from an intro chapter from a Chinese book on the topic. Below is a quote

that I find interesting.

" One should also note that Chinese medicine has different systems of

diagnosis and treatment and one should understand that the diseases within

those systems come about due to different pathomechanisms. "

This refers to the differences between zang-fu and other methods of

diagnosising.

Anyway, I would love to hear what people think of the piece as well as other

people's ideas on what they think these terms mean.

Respectfully,
