Guest guest
Hi All- I have a new patient who is coming to see me for chronic daily headaches after having fungal meningitis (subsequent to Valley Fever) in January of this year. Part of her medical therapy includes lifelong use of antifungal medication. While her doctors did not tell her she needs to be careful to avoid molds and fungi, I am concerned about the possibility of molds and/or fungi to exist within already-prepared herbal formulas. I imagine it would be easier for these to grow in tablets and capsules than in alcohol-preserved tinctures, but that's just my hunch. Does anyone know for sure? I have had patients who have received organ transplants who told me they need to avoid fruits and vegetables for the same reasons of possibly eating molds or fungi, and this question would be relevant to them as well. What is the best type of preparation of herbal formulas that would be most resistant to growing molds and fungi? Is there any way to ascertain that any formula is completely free of fungi and molds? And would it be wise not to prescribe any of our therapeutic mushrooms (fungi)? Thank you, Need a vacation? Get great deals to amazing places on Travel.
