Before inclusion of data from that monograph, but including Yehuda's

summary, my notes on it are:

 

HERB NAME: Leigongteng [Three-Wing-Nut Rx / Stem; Common

Threewingnut Rx / Stem; " Thunder God Vine " ]; Rx / Caulis Tripterygii

Wilfordii

 

HERB CLASS: Expel Wind + Expel Damp + Expel Cold; Antirheumatic

 

NATURE: Cool; TOXIC*; Bitter; Acrid

 

CHANNELS: LV

 

ACTIONS: Antiinflammation; Antibacterial & Anthelmintic; Anthelmintic;

Anticancer; Clear Toxin; Contraceptive; KI Protector / Antinephritic;

Immunostimulant; Immunosupressive; Antirejection; Expel Wind + Expel

Damp ~ Reduce Swelling; Stop Pain; Aid Joints; Free Jingluo: arthralgia in

Wind Damp, esp rheumatoid arthritis; lupus erythaematosus, glomerular

nephritis, nephrotic Pattern, subhepatitis & various kinds of skin diseases,

like vasculitis, erythema multiforme, eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, Behcet's

Pattern, recurrent aphthae, etc; (1) Dec is Hypotensor, slows HT rate &

prolongs P-R period in ECG; (2) triptolide & tripdiolide (0.1mg / kg), inhibit

leukaemia1210; (3) alkaloids Antiarthritis; (4) Dec Boost phagocytosis;

Immunsuppressant; Anticancer; Contraceptive / Abortifacient; Parasiticide;

Clear Toxin, esp as Topical for maggot-infested wounds / dt rat-bites /

snake-bites

 

DOSE: AVOID / use great caution; As Dec: 5-12g/d; max 15g/d but some

say up to 20g; cook it at least 60min before adding other Hbs; then cook for

15min more; Tab (total glycoside 10mg): 30mg TID-QID / 20-40mg (total

terpene) TID; TOXIC - AVOID Hb

 

USES: Wind Damp Bi & pain w bone spurs; RA**; arthritis ~ proliferative;

spinal cord inflammation; Immunosuppressant in autoimmune diseases;

Lupus; purpura; transplant rejection; nephritis w proteinuria; asthma; LU TB;

psoriasis; Dermatitis; Reiter's Pattern

 

CAUTIONS: TOXIC~VERY*, esp at higher doses; AVOID overdose; may

cause vertigo, HT ~ palpitation, weakness, nausea, emesis, ST ~ pain,

diarrhoea, pain in LV & KI areas, bleeding in digestive tract, even respiration

& circulation exhaustion & death; anaemia; tincture topically can cause

mutation; prolonged use could significantly Reduce bone mineral density of

levels in female systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE); prolonged use causes

hair loss & malFx of immune system; CI in pre-existing cardiovascular / LV

disorders; Minimal side-effects if prepared & dosed properly
