Guest guest
Hi Dave, Bob Flaws has done it again with his book entitled: " Chinese Medicinal Wines and Elixirs " available at Blue Poppy: http://www.bluepoppy.com/cfwebstorefb/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display & produ\ ct_id=357 Another good book is " Chinese Herbal Medicine " By Daniel Reid including Yang Shen's prescription for Tonic " Spring Wine " made with: lu rong (Cervus Nippon) 150g, lu jiao jiao (Cervus Nippon glue) 150g, e jioao *Equus Asinus glue) 150g, dang gui (Angelica Sinensis) 60g, shu di huang (Rhemannia Glutinosa) 150g, huang qi (Astragalus Membranaceus) 80g, ginseng (Panax Ginseng best quality) 20g, fu pen zi (Rubus Coreanus) 20g, gou qi zi (Lycium Chinese) 60g, ze he che (Dried Human Placenta) 60g, nu zhen zi (Ligustrum Japonicum seeds) 60g, sou yang (Cynomorium SOngaricum) 60g, ge jie (Gekko gecko) 1¡â & 1¡á hai ma (Hippocamus Kelloggi sea-horse) 60g Preparation: Steep then ingredients in large ceramic vessel with 6 liters of strong liquor, such as brandy, CHinese gao liang, vodka, etc. for 6 months or more. The vessel should be well sealed. After 6 months or so, pour off half the brew, and strain well through cheesecloth or filter paper. Refill the vessel with three fresh bottles of liquor, reseal, and steep for another 6 months or so. Use the entire batch the second time. The Spring Wine may be flavored to taste with honey or sugar candy. To make a pleasing liqueur, add chopped chunks of rock crystal sugar to the strained liquor.
