Tell us about her tongue and pulses. How is her BP? Are her feet cold? Does

she have night sweats (or does she tend to sweat during the daytime?) Any low

back pain? Frequent urination? And what about nightime urination? How is her

sleep pattern? IMHO, I don't think that Er Xian Tang was the appropriate fomula

to start with, as it primarily treats Kd Yin and Yang Xu, with deficient fire,

while harmonizing the Ren and Chong channels. If, as you say, this patient has

repletion, than we would need to examine the answers to the above questions to

know from where to start.

Respectfully,

Yehuda

PS. Michael, are you planning on updating Planetary Herbology? It is a

wonderful book!

sort of frame it as a rising evil yang condition and am trying a formula

based on Er xian Tang (curculigo combination). Acupuncture has been GV 20,

Li 4, Li 11, Kid3, spl 6. After one treatment no change in her condition.

She is not a deficient type, in fact quite energetic. Makes a point of

swimming each day in the Northern California ocean -- temperature in the 65

f. range. She said this symptom was occuring before swimming in the ocean

and thinks that the cold water may be helping.

Hi Michael,

I have often found this symptom to be common in coffee-drinkers who are

menopausal and post-menopausal. Once they stop drinking coffee, they are no

longer " hot heads " .

Hi Michael,

Is it an excess or deficient problem? I think most texts simply

show fevers of perimenopausal patients are related to yin xu, not

excess heat/fire. Of course, that's simplified, vary according to

your signs and symptoms. Lack of energy doesn't mean she doesn't

have yin xu. Yin xu also gives people a lot of (frantic) energy -

like when I stay up too late at night and catch that 'second wind' -

burning the fumes of longevity!
