Thanks Are, thanks Yehuda.

Yeah, L-Lysine is good for outbreaks. But I suppose

what I wanted to ask is if there is some formula or

prepared formula to prevent the outbreaks, such as

VELTREX that his physician prescribed for him, but

he doesn't want to take any farmaceuticals.

I hope there's something out there.

Thanks,

Glow

Hi Glow,

As the old joke goes, " what's the difference between love and herpes? A:

Herpes is forever! " The best prevention is avoiding stress, adequate rest, and

enriching and cooling yin. Once one has them, he who burns the candle at both

ends will pay the price.

As practitioners, it is important for us to educate our patients to think

differently. Again, like pain, Herpes is a message to look within and slow

down!

Stay cool,

Yehuda

There is a file on the Files section of CHA that has information on

genital herpes (contrasted with the traditional disease of yin sores).

The info is basically translated from Chinese textbooks, using both

modern and traditional chapter headings to show the similarities and

differences in approach. The discussion on genital herpes starts

around page 40 of the file called 1 Eric Symposium.

Nerds might find the introductory info on genital herpes and yin sores

intriguing, it took some serious work for me to attempt to trace the

earliest references to STDs in the Chinese literature. If anyone has

any strong evidence that the Chinese knew about sexual transmission as

a vector of disease before the Song Dynasty, I'd love to hear about it.

As for prevention of outbreaks, treating the presenting pattern is

much better than any standard protocol could do. If they have liver

depression forming fire, treat it. If they have yin xu heat, treat

it. If they have kidney yang xu, treat it. The TCM factors that make

people run down are different for everyone. Herpes thrives when the

host is run down. Prevent that and you minimize recurrence (though

confounding variables abound, of course).

I do recall a research article that mentioned xia ku cao being used in

a topical ointment for outbreaks- apparently it targets the HSV-2

virus, if memory serves.

Doug,

Does this stuff work for shingles too?
