Guest guest
Hi Group, Just wondering what you all are doing in terms of herbs, supplements, acu for yourselves? How often are you taking herbs, how many grams per day? Is it a constitutional formual, daily or always changing? How often are you getting acu? Do you takes supplements? What other things are you doing to maintain health: qigong, meditation, yoga? I'm trying to get a feel for what practitioners are doing in terms of preventative/healthy lifestyles. Any help would be great. Cheers, Dave V
Guest guest
Hi Dave, What a great topic! I believe that I have more abundant and joyful qi for my work when I take good care of myself. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm pretty high-maintenance! I do need to practice what I preach, in terms of diet, exercise, moderation, and good self-care. Here's a description of what I do when I am at my best: I have kept up with doing Tai Qi every morning, after it was a required class my first term in school. Sometimes I read inspirational literature and meditate in the morning, but I tend to fall out of this pattern from time to time. I pray, and write (and sing) songs affirming faith and the bounty of life - a necessity, since I have a disposition that easily becomes negative or depressed. I also participate in 12-step programs to keep old addictions at bay. Now more than ever, I rise early and go to sleep early. I have found, as my practice gets busier, that I need more time in the mornings for administrative and computer tasks, and my self-care regimen. This helps me get in the proper mindset for seeing patients at 10 am. Depending on how busy I am, I may see patients until 6 pm, but I am not that busy every day. When I am truly at my best and the weather permits, I also get to take a walk either in the morning or afternoon. I take time to appreciate the beauty around me enjoy and the sensation of moving freely. Tending also to easily become anxious and stressed, I have a constant internal (silent) mantra I use to calm myself. I also take herbs daily. Having had the opportunity to observe changes in myself seasonally over the years, I now am able to begin changing formulas midway through a season to begin to prepare for the next season. As a result, symptoms that crop up the same time each year are less intense and last for a shorter time each year. Being perimenopausal, I take different formulas in the morning and evening. Type and dosage vary often. This summer, I got a pet parakeet. I play with her every day, and she keeps me highly amused and laughing hard! As I get older (I am now 51), I see more and more that keeping the quality of my life very high enables me to bring more to others, and this is the core of my wellness practice, if you can call it that. I hope this is useful to you! It was fun thinking about it! dmvitello01 <dmvitello wrote: Hi Group, Just wondering what you all are doing in terms of herbs, supplements, acu for yourselves? Guest guest
Without specifics--I get acupuncture every 2-3 months from a seasoned practitioner who does a lot of Kiiko's methods. In between times I have rolfing once a month and osteopathic manipulation (by a D.O.) every other week. Practices are: qigong, taijiquan once a day (every other day at busy times), trail walking and bicycling occasionally, watercolor, meditation (sufi & buddhist), enjoying good food and wine with friends. I take a supplements (basic vitamin & mineral supplements, MSM, glucosamine, fish oil) and Chinese herbs in pill or capsule form. I do not overwork, screening new patients and referring freely. Knowing my limits and where my work starts to deteriorate, I don't book beyond those limits. None of this is easy. It is a juggling act, but usually it works. Also publish a journal twice a year (Journal of Martial Arts & Healing) which is probably the worst thing for health that I do.
