Hi Sue:

I don't know about aspartame and erectile dysfunction, and

about the soda he drinks the only thing I can tell you is that

it is tremendously bad for his lungs and all zangFu because:

when we breathe, we inhale oxigen and expel carbon.

When your patient drinks sodas, what he's doing is ingesting

carbon, and you can deduce the long term outcome from there.

Milk also is bad for him because he's 50 years old, and instead

of helping him in the preservation of bones, what it's doing at

this point is utilizing protein (that otherwise would be used for

muscle mass) to get itself (calcium) absorbed. He needs to

lose the milk and sodas and instead eat a massive amount of dark

green veggies and seaweed, and he needs to sleep more. This

is none TCM related, but you can recommend that to fix this

problem for good, he can start to practice Kundalini Yoga OR

Qigong (please notice that I said OR Qigong NOT both)

As far as erectile dysfunction is concerned: The chinese expression

for it is Yang Wei. The etiology and pathogenesis is: overindulgent

sexial activity (just before it manifested), habitual masturbation, or

emotional disturbances, such as anxiety (due to narcisistic worries

such as getting older, losing " the looks " , or the very potency, not

having achieved as much in his life (this is apparent from what you

describe), fear, and so on. Downpour of damp-heat in the lowerjiao

can also result in impotence. The TCM patterns are Debilitation of

life-gate fire, and Downpour of damp-heat in the lowerjiao.

From your limited description, maybe, his case could be downpour

of damp-heat in the lowerjiao. Symptoms for this pattern are: flaccidity

of the penis with inability to achieve or sustain erection, usually

premature ejaculation; could also include sweatiness of the scrotum (excessive

sweating you know contributes to yin deficiency,) heavy,

aching lower extremities, thirst and/or bitter taste in the mouth. The tongue

could be with yellow, slimy coating, and pulse slippery, rapid.

If you think this could be the case, I'll give you acupuncture points to

clear heat, and drain dampness, and also herbs.

Hi all

I'm glad you are talking about aspartame as I had a new patient this

week - a 50 year old man with fairly recent erectile difficulties

(inability to reach or maintain a full erection, he can ejaculate

OK). He is tremendously fit and active fact only sleeps less

than 5 hours because of all the things he wants to fit into his

day. It is hard to get a sense of his imbalances first time but his

left pulse is softer and weaker than his right. Tongue was

unremarkable. He consumes huge amounts of eggs, milk and diet cola

each day. I wondered whether he was fundamentally yin depleted and

the eggs and milk acted as a constant yin supplement. I also

wondered whether the erectile difficulties could be related to the

aspartame in the cola. Any ideas or experience of this? your input

would be much appreciated

and I will read the websites offered on aspartame withdrawal as well

thanks

and aspartame. She's been having severe headaches for 3 weeks,

longer than would be usual for caffeine and effexor withdrawal. My

chance, she had a stick of gum sweetened with aspartame yesterday

and noticed the headache was gone immediately. Web search today

revealed that it commonly takes 60 days for the effects of aspartame

withdrawal to disappear, far longer than caffeine or effexor. I

told her I'd ask if anyone has any suggestions to speed up the

process and make it more tolerable.
