Guest guest
Hi Folks, I am interested in trying some herbal products, the manufacturer of which uses some herbs supplied by Hui Kang Herbs and Kwok Shing Hong. Is anyone familiar with these distributers, particularly in regard to quality control, pesticides, heavy metals, and other contaminants? Thanks, Neil Pregozen

Kwok Shing is a very large importer that supplies a lot of Chinatown pharmacies. Their products are variable, often many different grades are available. Cantonese substitute species can be an issue for certain herbs like sheng ma, ji xue teng, wang bu liu xing, etc. If you know what you are doing, you can get good stuff from them; if you don't know much about pharmacy, it is a bit of a steep learning curve to go straight to a large Chinese importer (different grades and subtypes are referred to by specific Chinese names). I don't know the answer to the heavy metal and pesticide questions, the easiest thing to do is to have a friend who speaks Chinese call them up and ask them.
