Guest guest
I have four comments. First of all, 12 step programs and psychiatric help never come in the same package. Promise, by definition they don't. Second, to say only 12 step programs work for addictions is to say no professionals can do anything for addicts. Ditto Alon's comments. Third, we are all addicts to one extent or another. We all have unhealthy levels of attachment to one thing or another.... I don't have my Nei Ching, I'm out of town, maybe someone else can find my fav paragraph. Remember the one, just 6 sentences, stating in the first 2 sentences that a healthy level of lust/attachment feeds life and health and a strong-unhealthy level of attachment will drain our health and vitality? Apparently assuming most of us won't *get it* the first time - there are two more corollary sentence pairs stating the same idea. The author figured it would take three times to get this point across! Buddhism, Daoism, Christianity and other religions also emphasize this concept of " don't be so attached here - it's not good for your health. " I.e., lots of Special Authors have thought it would take multiple takes for us to get this notion. Fourth, there's nothing unique about Anorexia Nervosa compared to other addictions or human problems. I have more confidence in my expertise in eating disorders and much more confidence in Chinese medicine than to stay as far away as possible from ED's. Lynn ******************* Gloria: The only hope, if there's one, is to engage in a 12 step programme with psychiatric help within it. This is no guaranty however, that the patient will recover, but it's the only hopeful avenue conducive to a higher level of consciousness, where as previously stated, at the level of 540 or higher, the disease resolves itself in The Field. A thoughtful and collegial suggestion, is that we stay as far away from them as we possibly can; for their sake, and ours. ******* Someday, either in this life or the next, I promise you'll understand. Alon Marcus: Chinese Herbal Medicine to say that only 12 step programs work for addiction is totally ridiculous and uninformed ~ Doing Better Than I Deserve ~ Pain is Normal - Be Weird!
