Guest guest
Hi, I am looking for resources on tincturing Chinese herbs. Anyone have any favorite books on tincturing? Does anyone know of practitioners in Northern California that make their own tinctures or use then in their practices? I am just starting to tincture for patients in my own practice and would like advice from more experienced herbalists. Thank you, Jessica Curl ______________________________\ ____ Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
Hey Jessica, I have done a lot of tincturing and am actually working on a book about preparation of Chinese medicinals with my teacher here in Beijing. There is a lot to learn but I would recommend James Green's book and Richo Cech's book on the subject. They don't cover Chinese herbs specifically but they cover the basics on the subject of medicine making. I would also recommend an older copy of Remington's Practice of Pharmacy (if I remember correctly you want the twelfth or thirteenth editions, pre 1930-5 or so). Also, Michael Moore has a good amount of data on his website. Also, my dear friend Ben Zappin has a business in Santa Cruz called Five Flavors Herbs (www.fiveflavorsherbs.com), which is a pharmacy service for practitioners and he has a small line of products for internal and external application. He does lots of custom stuff and has a good size pharmacy, including both Western and Chinese herbs. Good luck, Thomas Beijing, China www.sourcepointherbs.org
