Guest guest
This thread of " Fundamentalism vs Eclecticism " reminds me of two things: 1. Our two party political system 2. Medical moose lodges and secret medical societies It's funny, because I think that all of us are left-of allopathic medicine, and right-of new ageism. Do we have a " moose lodge " or " smoking room " for our profession. If so, what are the credentials? Invite-only? Publish or perish? Maybe we need some moose-lodges; will the establishment listen then? In fact, I'm honored to be on this discussion board; and got into this medicine mainly because of the caliber of humanness I saw in many Asian medicine practitioners. Also, I see the need for more critical thinking in this profession if we're going to survive in the cut-throat world of commerce and science. Not only that, but I think that we have a responsibility to keep this medicine alive; to be a vital tradition among currents of change. New-ageism is old stuff, but the problem is that it lacks depth. I think that Jason, Z'ev and Bob for instance are concerned about uncovering the depth of the medicine. I think that Michael is doing the same thing, but in his own way... What I value in the " fundamentalist " approach is that it conjures up knowledge from 3000 years and millions of practitioners. While the eclectic approach may do the same thing, it isn't as focused. It might create new avenues to break through stagnant concepts or new ways to look at proven concepts. At the same time, losing thousands of years of blood, sweat and tears is shameful. Thanks to both camps for keeping it interesting. btw; tuning forks were used by Taoist musicians in the form of bamboo pipes, but I haven't seen this used for medicine before. Are there any medical histories on this? What gets me is that they're charging an arm and a leg for the color coded astrologically calculated tuning forks at the conferences, when you can buy them at the guitar store down the block for $30.
