Guest guest
Danny Fuzi, according to several Shanghan Commentaries, enables the 'passage of yang' (tong-yang). This is why the Si-Ni Tang variations in the SHL are indicated for various manifestations of yang being blocked by cold. This is not a denial that fuzi has warming qualities, nor do I recall any overt statements to that effect. The materia medica describe fuzi as being greatly hot and moving through all 12 channels. My experience is that patience usually subjectively react to ganjiang through its (hot) spiciness more than to the fuzi. Also, heat sores on the tongue will appear more from ganjiang than from fuzi. Thursday, March 20, 2008 8:33 AM Fu Zi and Gan Jiang Hello everyone, When I was in TCM school, I remember an instructor from the Shang Han Lun class say something to the effect of " Fu Zi is not truly warming unless combined with Gan Jiang. " He was referring to Si Ni Tang and its variations. Has anyone heard of this saying or anything similar to it before? If so, is it from a classical text? Thanks, -Danny
Guest guest
A teacher of mine says that Fu zi warms quickly, but fades quickly. Gan Jiang warms slowly, but lasts a long time. Together, they tonify KD (Fu zi) yang and SP (Gan jiang) yang. I like to think of this metaphorically, like the tortoise and the hare. Gan jiang is the tortoise and Fu zi is the hare. Si ni tang for Shao yin cold syndrome. For cold limbs, somnolence, yang collapse. Interesting all the ways that Fu zi is used by Shang han-lunists. What herbs go to the 12 channels other than Fu zi and Gan cao? What does the Shen nong ben cao say? My notes say that the following Hbs enter all 12 Channels: Gancao & Zhigancao (esp HT; LU; SJM) Weilingxian (esp BL*) Zhiguizhi (esp HT, LU, SJM) Question: As the Five Tastes enter the Five Phases, could one assume that Wuweizi (fruit of the Five Tastes) enters the 12 Channels also? I cannot find any claim for that on Google. My notes say that Wuweizi enters LU; HT; KI Best regards,
