Edema, Hashimoto's, Chronic Fatigue

Greetings,

I have a 60 year old female patient that complains of low energy,

extreme edema around the ankles and feet, IBS (alternating constipation

diarrhea), random hot flashes throughout the day and night, and obesity

(gained 13 lbs in the past year).

She has a history of Polycythemia Rubra Vera which was successfully

treated with a three year course of Interferon eleven years ago.

She has recently been diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, Chronic

Fatigue Syndrome, and Sleep Apnea (wakes 60 times per night).

Pulses: thin and weak, KD and PC deep and deficient, Lung is

imperceptable.

Tongue: pale-dusky, thick white coat at the root, deep cracks at the

root and center, no coat towards the tip, shiny wet appearance.

 

I have been treating Spleen and Kidney Vacuity and would like to give

her Zhen Wu Tang, but I am concerned about Fu Zi with her hot flashes.

Also I am wondering if anyone cares to offer an opinion about the

energetic effects of Interferon.

Doesn't look too easy. Many people develop thyroid problems and/or

diabetes after interferon treatment. Officially interferon involvement

should stop in the body a week or two after the last dosage. Taking

it for three years is a very long time. I'm going to assume it was a

low dosage. There seems to be so much going on here that I don't think

the interferon directly caused the thyroiditis 10 years later but

seems to continuation of a rather complicated pattern. Taking

interferon raises the fight against pathogens and has been described

as having really, really bad flu symptoms day after day, week after week.
