Pardon the non-herbal question -

Has anyone tried the new EA-4 electroacupuncture units from Helio? I

have been using the awd808 II for a while, and been happy with it, but

it's very fragile. Well... after a couple of drops from the table and

the transformers inside needed repairing. I would especially like to

find a unit with better pots (the intensity controls) where the

current has a slower ramp up, rather than zero to full bore in a

fraction of an inch!

Hi. There are 2 types of potentiometers, 'linear taper' and 'logarithmic taper'

pots. Neither type would go from off to full on in a fraction of an inch,

unless they were bad or shorted (maybe dusty). Logarithmic pots are used to

increase amplification to match the human hearing sensitivity, as in audio

volume applications,. Maybe that batch of machine had the wrong pots installed.

The linear pots have a smooth increase where for example, 1/2 turn = 1/2 more

power @, which is desirable for stimulators.

If it is a multiple output machine, and all the outputs act in the same sudden

way, it probably isn't the knobs (pots), but the op-amps, or in a lot of chinese

products I've seen, the transistor amplifier circuit. Most stimulators I have

used don't cause a reaction in the patient ubtil 1/4 to 1/3 of travel of the

knob, at least.

Still, subjective patient reaction varies, so go slow turning power up.
