I am wondering if anyone is aware of any research on the biological activity of

yin tonics, especially moderation of estrogen availability. This is an important

question for women with hormone receptor positive breast cancer who go through

chemotherapy and later end up taking western medicines like tamoxifen which

block estrogen, and therefore end up with terrible night sweats. They can be

very yin deficient after treatment and might be helped by yin tonic formulae,

however if herbs such as shu di increase the bioavailability of estrogen they

run the risk of recurrence of the cancer. Anyone know anything about this?

This has been a popular topic on the CHA list in the past. As I recall, the

upshot of the conversation was that nobody knows yet if phytoestrogens

should be considered to have the same effects as naturally occurring

estrogens in the body. You might want to go to the CHA list site at

groups and search for " phytoestrogen " . I'm sure that the threads will pop

up.

Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional.
