Guest guest
What are you all finding to be *clinically* effective in helping to alleviate the pain/dryness/irritation/friability associated with post-menopausal vaginal atrophic changes? I'm not looking for what it says in the TCM text books nor am I looking for suggestions to " treat according to pattern " etc. I've done all that. I'm looking for what is actually working for your patients, real world...that may be a bit " outside the box. " Custom Chinese herbal formulas & acupx have had good results in all other areas of the patient's case except this...I've been working with this patient fairly consistently for 2 years. Have run hormone panels. Have tried various brands of phytoestrogen creams applied locally (they burn, so can't get closer than lower abdomen...which isn't really addressing the issue). I've even had the pt try a compounded local estrogen cream that a local doc will order for me...this burned even worse. Same thing w/ personal moisturizers/lubricants - even the ones that are paraben-free and mineral-oil free, all natural, etc. Found some legit research on taking Radix Pueraria Mirifica (which is different from what we use as Ge Gen) & improvement of vaginal atrophic changes...has anyone seen/used this clinically? Unfortunately, googling this herb takes you to a bunch of " breast enlargement creams. " Does this have a specific Pin Yin - I haven't found it yet, let alone found a supplier for it. Have added isoflavones and made dietary changes. Have done/am doing EFA's (fish oil & flax oil w/ either borage or primrose). These have all been good for other things, but not making any changes w/ vaginal health. Have tried slippery elm (raw) internally at mod-high doses (2 tbs/day) again no vaginal improvement...considering making a suppository out of the slippery elm as local poultice to try and soothe the irritation - anyone try something similar? Also considering just raw aloe-vera plant and applying gel from the fresh plant which is not easy to get unless you've already got a mature plant (all the aloe vera gel products I've come across seem to be adulterated). Anyone try anything like that yet? Perhaps a poultice of slippery elm, aloe vera and vitamin-e? Maybe a Sitz bath w/ decotion of zi cao, dang gui shen & ???. Patient is very sensitive to essential oils, otherwise I'd consider carrot seed... Any creative thoughts out there? Guest guest
Joy: You asked for " what works " even if it is outside the box? What has worked for me is on the other side of the fence in the allopathic world. You are welcome to contact me off list to continue this discussion. Best...... Guest guest
Hi Joy, I'm not sure what you mean by 'I've done all that' - that's pretty broad! For the majority of standard Liver Yin Xu type atrophy, I have had great luck with Qi Ju Di Huang Wan. I use the Min Shan pills from Mayway. As always, the standard applies - depending on your differential. Most women respond pretty well within a few weeks. Mayway used to have a better product, Shou Wu Essence, but it's long been discontinued. I have a bottle and will try to reverse engineer it one day when I have some free time... still waiting.. Guest guest
For a certain " type " of woman, I have used Wen Jing Tang and having great results for vaginal dryness/atrophy. I recently wrote an article explaining Wen Jing Tang as a moistening Yin and Jing tonic. This is based on the work of Huang Huang. If you are interested in the article, contact me off list and I will send it to you.
