Guest guest
My sister-in-law has breast cancer. It metastized to the bones about 10 years ago. Around December 2007 it metasticised to the LV, intestines, bladder both inside and outside (this was confirmed on Friday). A slow growing cancer has become rapid growing. She began chemotherapy with carboplatin and abraxine three weeks ago. Treatments weekly except last week. Her platelets have decreased from normal range to 71(K). Does anyone have any experience working to raise platelets levels? They are stopping chemo because of the low count. She has been unwilling to try Chinese medicine until now but would be open to trying it if it might help. Here is a little more information. They live in LA. She is early 50’s. Pale to grey complexion last time we saw her. Dramatically stooped but still able to walk and take care of ADL. Meds: Chemo two tx carboplatin and abraxine, nupagen, oxycotin 10mg, oxycodan 5 mg, anti nausea, welbutrin, ambian, and other things she has forgotten. They have checked them all to see if they would inhibit the formation of platelets. Energy: little tired Sleep: 10 mg ambian so good Moods: emotional – LV cancer was a big surprise spirits have been relatively up for most of the time Temp: little hot flashes or normal Appetite: ok, not a lot; food not taste good Digestion: indigestion – 2 wks blue capsule Thirst: average BM: okay Urine: pain – bladder cancer pills pain Tongue: pale center, pink side tm, twc Lots of Pain. She has become stooped with pain. Her abdomen has grown with the cancers – she in maternity pants. She has her first grandchild coming in July and would like to be here for his birth. Thanks for any advise you might have. I don't focus on cancer but would like to help if it would give her a little more time.

I have used basic blood and qi tonics with Ji Xue Teng to help with platelets in cancer patients. A good basic formula, if it matches her pulse and tongue might be something like: Ba Zhen Tang - Ren Shen + Tai Zi Shen, plus Ji Xue Teng, Ban Zhi Lian, Bai Hua She She Cao, Shan Yao, Shan Zhu Yu, Ling Zhi, Gou Qi Zi, Da Zao, Duan Long Gu, Duan Mu Li. You might also consider Huang Qi, and maybe more for the Kidneys because carboplatin is so hard on the Kidneys. -Anne
