Guest guest
1. For those who have published TCM books and make royalties, what percentage range can you expect to get back? Even for a text book that is used in TCM schools, is it at all profitable to publish? 2. For teaching at TCM schools, you can only expect $30 - $50 / hour in the SF/ East bay area. Even you taught 3 classes (9 hours/ week), you could only expect to make $1100 - $1900/ /month ($11,000 - $19,000/ year) w/ 2 months off during breaks We don't have access to teach at major universities in the U.S., except for a couple acupuncturists who might teach for Harvard's continuing education dept. 3. How profitable is it to teach CEU courses? 4. Other than practicing, teaching and publishing; what other financial avenues are there available for a practitioner? Guest guest
Interesting question to poll, as I have similar interests to Todd. The surveys that I've seen include alumni surveys, Alliance survey ~1999, and a CAAOM (now CSOMA) survey ~1993, all point to a median income of about $60K, ranging from $20K to >$200K. This is what I tell prospective students. As the professionalism of the profession increases due to stronger entry-level standards with more emphasis placed on practice building and management, I expect these numbers to go up. Absolutely agree. About 10 years ago the results of a limited poll among Maryland licensees pointed to a lack of professionalism and a low average income level. Many respondents were using it for part-time income and were supported by a gainfully employed spouse. This group, with few exceptions, does not get involved in issues that will upgrade our profession. Frances Gander Athens, Ohio
