One course of treatment was all they mentioned. I have never done it myself so I can't really comment. Many hospitals in China (as well as massage parlors) do have those steaming machines though. > > Tom, do you think that this [using a plaster instead of steaming] might work just as well as steaming? The article mentioned that the (high) temperature of the steaming was part of the treatment effect, perhaps not unlike physiotherapists around here that use hot fango (some kind of mud from Italy) in back pain. Having said that, I had co-students in Nanjing that absolutely loved those herbal plasters that seemed to create a feeling of heat all by themselves. So yes I'm sure that one can make a nice plaster from formulas like the one from the article. Good plasters are kind of hard to get here in Belgium- does ayone have a good source in Europe? IMO, it is impractical in western practice to ask clients to come in for steaming more than twice. However, if one could make a plaster for daily application, it might me more useful. For example, converting your doses to percentages, one could make a plaster as follows: (%) Herb [ & main actions] 3.8 Bohenao [Clear Wind Heat; Cool Xue; Antiinflammation; Analgesic; Ease Itch]; 6.4 Chishao [Cool Xue; Clear Heat + Toxin; Disperse Xueyu]; 6.3 Shenjincao [Disperse Wind Damp + Expel Cold; Disperse Wind Cold Damp Bi; Antirheumatic; Quicken Xue; Lessen Swelling; Antiinflammation; Relax Sinew; Analgesic]; 6.4 Kuanjinteng [Disperse Wind Damp; Disperse Xueyu; Analgesic]; 9.6 Niuxi (Chuan) [Disperse Xueyu; Clear Damp Heat; Strengthen loin & knees; Nourish Sinew & Bone; Relax Muscle + Tendon]; 6.4 Danshen [Disperse Xueyu; Clear Heat; Cool Xue]; 6.4 Ruxiang [Disperse Xueyu; Lessen Swelling; Analgesic; Disperse Qizhi]; 6.3 Zelan [Disperse Xueyu; Free Menses Lessen Swelling; Haemostat]; 6.4 Sanqi [Disperse Xueyu; Haemostat; Lessen Swelling; Analgesic]; 6.4 Moyao [Disperse Xueyu; Lessen Swelling; Disperse Qizhi; Analgesic]; 6.3 Taoren [Disperse Xueyu; Rectify Menses**; Reduce Clumps; Smash Abscess]; 6.4 Honghua [Disperse Xueyu; Vasodilator]; 6.4 Chuanxiong [Disperse Xueyu~ Analgesic; Anticoagulant / Antithrombus; Disperse Wind Cold; Dispel Damp Bi; Antiinflammation ]; 6.3 Yanhusuo [Disperse Xueyu~ Analgesic; Disperse Qizhi]; 3.8 Zhangnao [EXTERNAL use; Open Portals~ aromatic; Penetrate; Expel Sepsis / Turbidity; Disperse Damp; Disperse Wind Damp; Antiinflammation; Ease Itch; Lessen Swelling; Analgesic] 6.4 Danggui [Tone Xue; Disperse Xueyu; increase peripheral circulation; Antiinflammation; Analgesic]; Grind Hbs finely & mix qs to make paste w Heizhimayou (Sesame Oil) & Bimayou (Castor Oil) (50 / 50); apply paste as a warm plaster to pain area, like loin pain / lumbar disc prolapse area; replace plaster daily Tom, do you think that this might work just as well as steaming? Would addition of some DMSO enhance the effect? Best regards,
