Doug,

Thanks, although I am looking for a book that they could buy and read. Any

suggestions?

I usually point them toward " The Web that Has No Weaver " as a starter

text.

I remain faithful to *The Web that has no Weaver*. Up till all of the charts

in the last third of the book, anyway.

I usually refer them to the Web. It's well written but gives enough of

the complexity that they feel there is a lot to learn (and I'm thus

that much appreciated.)

We desperately need a new book that reflects the clarity and diversity

What about " Understanding Acupuncture "

by Stephen Birch and Robert Felt

It is very thorough and explains how acupuncture works from biomedical

research.

That is an excellent book, but it is not an introduction to the broad

aspects of Chinese medicine. Nigel Wiseman is working on a new

introductory text with Eric Brand and Feng Ye that should be very high

quality.

Z'ev (or Eric),

Is this going to be a layman's book or an intro for professionals? I agree

with Z'ev, we need something a bit better than what is out there.

Professional. But I think simple enough for laypeople to get

something out of. However, I think we need a specifically layperson's

book of high quality. It doesn't exist. Even " Web " was originally

designed as a textbook for CM courses.

Blue Poppy has a consumer series Healing (your disease) Naturally.

Truth be told, I haven't looked at them carefully but they might be a

good start as to how to approach a book such as this. Bob? Any

interest in publishing one?

Is that so they become so confused that they come to see you to clarify? The

Web is a great book for OM folks to read about acupuncture theory, but for

layfolks, might as well be Porkert.

" we need something a bit better than what is out there. "

Oy, do we indeed. I remember thinking that both the " web " and

especially " heaven and earth " seemed a bit new-agey and therefore easy

to dismiss. I should take another look, but I can't believe this is

the best we can offer. The brochures available are aged and much too

simplistic for the web-accessed public looking for alternatives...

Clearly this is a gap waiting to be filled. An intelligent,

thoughtful discussion on Chinese medicine that looks at its practice,

history, and different schools of thought combined with practical

advice that stimulates the intelligence without confusing the reader.

I thought I remembered hearing that the Heaven and Earth authors

retracted their book because it was so inaccurate? Not true?
