It's interesting to note that QINGWEN BAIDU YIN is a pre-modren formula

(dated to 1794)

I also noticed that Shao Yao tang, which contains Huang Qin has a

modification for severe bleeding by adding Dan Pi. This is a old formula

dated to 1186

 

This evidence supports combining of the two herbs in pre-modern China.

My herb notes, and a Google search using the Hanzi characters for

Danpi & Huangqin, suggest that they are combined in a few formulas,

for example:

 

(1) HUANGQIN KUSHEN TANG:

Huangqin 15g [Clear Heat + Toxin & Drain Fire; Antibacterial (S

aureus & many kinds of pathogenic skin bacteria)];

Kushen 15g [Clear Heat & Diuretic~ Drain Damp; Ease Itch;

Antibacterial (S aureus & many kinds of pathogenic skin bacteria)];

Shengdi 10g [Clear Heat + Toxin & Cool Xue];

Zhizi 15g [Clear Heat + Toxin & Drain Fire; Antibacterial (S aureus &

many kinds of pathogenic skin bacteria)];

Danpi 10g [Clear Heat + Toxin & Cool Xue];

Chishao 12g [Clear Heat + Toxin & Cool Xue];

Baixianpi 15g [Clear Heat & Diuretic~ Drain Damp; Ease Itch];

Difuzi 10g [Clear Heat & Diuretic~ Drain Damp; Ease Itch];

Machixian 15g [Clear Heat & Diuretic~ Drain Damp; Ease Itch];

INDICATIONS: Damp Heat dermatosis w Heat more predominant than Damp;

S & Ss: Emission of Heat, mouth dry, thirst, desire for cold drinks, HT

Vexation, urine dark yellow, T: red w Fur this & yellow / yellow &

greasy; P: fast & taut / fast & slippery)

 

(2) QINGWEN BAIDU YIN / SAN: Qingwen Baidu San = Qingwen Baidu Yin

but substituting Shuiniujiao for XIJIAO; MODIFICATION of Baihu Tang

(White Tiger Dec), Huanglian Jiedu Tang & Chishao Dihuang Tang;
