Well, if you are interested in definitive actions that can be taken, I'll tell

you what we did in Oregon. We have not been able to prevent MDs from doing

acupuncture, but we got a law passed that said that any insurance company

operating in Oregon (including state workers compensation) that gives benefits

for acupuncture must give at least equal coverage to LAcs as it does to MDs who

do acupuncture. That isn't the whole battle, but it's a big start. Also, there

is another law we got passed regarding PIP claims that says any person who has

auto insurance can go to any LAc of their choice (not just preferred providers

on a specific plan) without need for doctor referral.

I think if you want to debunk MD Acupuncture, get the facts on exactly what

training they get, and then publicize those facts widely.

California has the same law. The problem is that the insurance companies

have a loop-hole when individual company policies are " self-funded. " In that

case, federal law supersedes state law, and the insurance company can then

legally have the " coverage only by MD " upheld.
