Gastric Bypass

Hi All

I have a potential patient that I have not seen yet, but has expressed

interest in getting treated. She is in her 40's and has had gastric

bypass surgery years ago and has lost a lot of weight, but now she is

left with lots of digestive issues. She has also been diagnosed with

anemia. My question is with respects to herbs. Has anyone treated

such a case and are there any concerns or problems with the patient

assimilating the herbal formulas because of the gastric bypass surgery?

Thanks in advance for any help or direction you can provide.

I have treated a couple of women who had gastric bypass. Initially in the

first years there is a problem with absorption. I personally think it helps

to dose with concentrated formulas, several times a day. Eventually both

clients stretched out their stomachs and possibly extended their intestines as

they regained the weight. Fats however have been problematical to absorb as

the liver and gallbladder are skipped over and drip ineffectively into the

closed off gastric tube.
