Guest guest
Hello Group, I'm having a hard time getting good results using acupuncture for tendonitis. I've tried teh following: 1. periosteal needling of the tendons in the elbow 2. local ashi needling down LI/SJ/SI channels 3. Dr Tan treatments using opposite leg ST/GB/UB ahshi 4. TCM pattern point perscriptions for Bi syndrome 5. Various herbal tx treating both root and branch (A. Marcus formulas) I've gotten minimal results we these approaches. Any recommendations? I cant use moxa at the clinic, is this found to be VERY effective. I'm looking into a TENS unit. Any other suggestions would be apprreciated...topical apps, herbal formulas. Thanks for your help, David Vitello
Guest guest
David first you should know it can be very difficult in some patients especially if they have tendinosus with local effusion and great sensitivity. Since you did local treatments i would suggest concentrating on antagonists to down regulating the extensors. You need to make sure there is no cervical dysfunctions that result in heightened tension at the muscle. Make sure the radial head functions correctly. Make sure there is no referral from triceps. Gua sha sometime helps but i have to again say there are some patient that just do not respond to these treatments and they need to first be injected with a steroid followed by prolotherapy or better yet PRP. Even then the response is only about 85%.
Guest guest
Hi David, In reference to Dr. Tan's balance method, let me ask you a few follow- up questions.... 1. Did the pain move or reduce after putting the needles in opposite ST/GB/UB ashi's? 2. If so, for how long did the change last? 3. How many balance method treatments total did they receive and how often did they come in for treatment? Guest guest
Thanks Alon. I will look into these methods. Guest guest
Hi Michelle, > > 1. Did the pain move or reduce after putting the needles in opposite > ST/GB/UB ashi's? Pain decreases inmost PTs during treatment and a couple hours after, but no long standing results. This is consisten with what I find in the Tan style...its more of an analgesic system. works great for headaches and some people respond well..but mostly it seems to just reduce pain. > 2. If so, for how long did the change last? varies with each patient...but most do not have longterm relief, especially with tendonitis. > 3. The Dr Tan system is so popular in the states these days. the chinese lady i work for uses it exclusively...i'm not completely sold on it though. like i said, its a great analgesic system, but doesnt adress root cause. Guest guest
Hi Dave, My questions were specific to the patient/case that you presented in this post so that I could offer you specific feedback for your case. It sounds like you are uninterested in pursuing the Balance Method approach entirely so there may be very little point in my commenting further. However, I incorporate many of Dr. Tan's strategies into my TCM clinic with great lasting results so would be willing to provide feedback for you if this is something you are interested in pursuing. The Balance Method is to be used for a channel diagnosis. Of course, if there is some other internal/organ diagnosis or lifestyle habit that is contributing to the issue, that must be addressed at the same time.
