Guest guest
I'm trying to figure out if it's safe to prescribe herbs for a shoulder injury (likely a modified tao hong si wu tang with dang gui, huang qi, qiang huo--something like that) for a patient of mine who's on the following drug regimen: Plavix 75 mg; Pravastatin 20 mg; Protonix 40 mg; Isosorbide 60 mg; Asprin 81 mg Not worried about the statin or the Protonix (for reflux). Isosorbide, a vasodilator, I would think should be okay. But I'm concerned about the Plavix-asprin combo, as they can prolong the pt time and Plavix is a cytochrome p450 inhibitor. How would you feel about giving her blood movers with an envoy to the shoulder? I know the biggest concern in that category of medicinals is with dan shen. Is it being too cautious to suggest she ask her doctor to monitor her pt time? Aside from her angina (and I'm assuming, based on meds, high cholesterol and GERD), she's in good health. She's a " young " 65, still very active, takes good care of herself. The shoulder injury is a result of repetitive lifting (she's an art librarian). Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this, Sarah Rivkin
