LATIN NAME: Rx Salviae Miltiorrhizae

 

COMMON name: Salvia Rx, Red Sage Rx; garden sage; Danshen Rx

 

Hb CLASS: Disperse Xueyu~ Rectify Menses;

 

Active AGENTS: has tanshinone

 

NATURE: Cold~ slightly / Cool; Bitter

 

CHANNELS: HT*; LV*; PC

 

DOSE: As Dec (oral): 6-15g / d; increase to 30-60g in w Heat Pattern

w angiitis & arthritis

 

ACTIONS: used in cooking; used in incense to repel Xieqi (Evil Qi);

 

(1) Prevent Xueyu; Disperse Xueyu** esp HT Xueyu & in / after CVA;

Disperse Xueyu in Brain Collaterals*; Vascular Aid**; Anticoagulant**

CAUTIONS: can cause Fluids Accumulation if used longterm; not useful

in BP problems; CI: Xu wo Stas / Xu Cold; CI: bleeding / tendency to

bleed / w Anticoagulants & clotting disorders; Great CAUTION w

warfarin, Zestril / Lisinopril (notify doctor of Anticoagulant effect

& to monitor prothrombin clotting time; adjust Danshen &

Anticoagulant doses accordingly); CAUTION~ but less w Anticoagulant

AGRANOX (aspirin derivitive); sudden withdrawal of either may Reduce

clotting time & increase risk of emboli; Incompatible w Lilu;

Antilactagogue; AVOID: Lactation, except at weaning
