Guest guest
Hi All, I was at the Scripps Center for Integrateve Medicine conference last month. There was a speaker there who was very familiar with the law regarding GMP and supplement manufacturers. I asked her about small herb shops and herbal pharmacies and what they are required to do regarding this law. She stated that there was a specific exemption for herbal pharmacies and herb shops. This exemption required that the relationship between the herbal pharmacy and the patient being a one on one relationship. Basically, this means that if a patient needs a formula and you make it by mixing together ingredients on the spot, then it is NOT required that you be GMP. However, the company that supplies you with the ingredients will most likely have to be GMP because they serve a variety of clients, it isn't a one on one relationship. If you do make formulas before hand, and herbal tincture, or a dit da jiao and package it for " consumption " by anyone who comes in the door, then you would be required to be GMP certified. I hope this helps to clairify the situation somewhat. -David Hahn, L.Ac. SourcePointAcupuncture.com
