Guest guest
Greetings, I would like to know if anyone has heard of PTNS? Is this the emperor with gorgeous clothes on or nothing at all? Or is it legitimate? Are there other cases of treatments resembling acupuncture, but being called by a different name and then are reimbursable by insurance co. . . . when MDs, etc are performing them, with no training other than the approximate cookbook location, and receiving $$$ from insurance companies? I digress . . .but this PTNS is Percutaneous Tibial Nerve Stimulation for bladder incontinence. The protocol is 12 treatments - yes, you sign up for 12 because even if your bladder is working after one treatment, everybody gets 12! .. . . Can you guess where the points are? Of course, they are on the Bladder meridian at Bl 60 and Kid 3 and then of course, CV 3. With eletro stim between them. The concern here is that nurses were inserting the needles. ANd they were acupunture needles. So is this acupuncture or is it PTNS????? It sure looks like acupuncture. Kinda smells like it too? But is it??? and what do we do with this information? Do we talk to our professional organizations and will they help us to refine the blending of medicines? Do our state licensing boards need to represent us and support us in our profession? I'd like to open this up for more information/discussion/information from a variety of perspectives. Our profession is rapidly changing and I look forward to your responses. thanks. susan froehlich, lac columbia river acupuncture mosier, or
