Xie4 and Bu3 according to 5 texts

To compare the ocean of what's out there in terms of terminology,

I've listed translated terms from a few of the most important texts

that are used in U.S. acupuncture schools.

 

In the Chinese Acupuncture and Moxibustion (yellow book) that is basically

the standard textbook for acupuncture training in the U.S.:

 

the translation for " Xie4 " is " Reducing "

the translation for " Bu3 " is " Reinforcing "

 

In Maciocia's Foundation of :

 

the translation for " Xie4 " is " Reduce (as a needle technique) or

Drain (fire) " pg. 489

the translation for " Bu3 " is " Tonify (or reinforce as a needle

technique) " pg. 488

 

In Deadman's/Al-Khafaji/Baker's A Manual of Acupuncture:

 

the translation for " Xie4 " is unclear.... could be " Regulates...,

Activates the Channel, Clears, Spreads "

the translation for " Bu3 " is unclear... coulg be " Tonifies,

Fortifies or Nourishes "

 

In the new 2nd edition of Scheid/Bensky/Ellis/Barolet Formulas and

Strategies:

 

the translation for " Xie4 " is " Drain " that eliminates " Obstruction "

pg. xxix

the translation for " Bu3 " is " Tonify " that eliminates " Weakness "

"

 

In the Dictionary of by Wiseman/Feng:

 

the translation for " Xie4 " is " Drain or Discharge "

the translation for " Bu3 " is " Supplement "
