Guest guest
" Transgenic Medicinal Plants (Biotechnology in Agriculture and Forestry) [iLLUSTRATED] (Hardcover)by Y.P.S. Bajaj(Editor) Product Description Comprising 26 chapters, this volume deals with the genetic transformation of medicinal plants. It describes methods to obtain plants resistant to insects, diseases, herbicides, and plants with an increased production of compounds of medicinal and pharmaceutical importance. The plant species included are Ajuga reptans, Anthemis nobilis, Astragalus spp., Atropa belladonna, Catharanthus roseus, Datura spp., Duboisia species, Fagopyrum spp., Glycyrrhiza uralensis, Lobelia spp., Papaver somniferum, Panax ginseng, Peganum harmala, Perezia spp., Pimpinella anisum, Phyllanthus niruri, Salvia miltiorrhiza, Scoparia dulcis, Scutellaria baicalesis, Serratula tinctoria, Solanum aculeatissimum, Solanum commersonii, Swainsona galegifolia, tobacco, and Vinca minor. This book is of special interest to advanced students, teachers, and researchers in the field of pharmacy, plant tissue culture, phytochemistry, molecular biology, biomedical engineering, and plant biotechnology in general. I wonder how much " progress " in engineering medicinal plants has been made in the past ten years? Like genetically engineered crops, genetically engineered medicinal herbs place entire species at risk for contamination with foreign DNA. Because contamination is inevitable, the production of genetically engineered plants is incompatible with the maintenance of the original species through traditional propagation methods. Increasingly, I realize the extreme critical importance and priority of developing sustainable cultivation of medicinal plants. But even with this, we can not afford to remain silent about genetic engineering. best regards, Gena
