Guest guest
I just read the Chinese Study on nutrition and seems quite clear from their data that the lower the cholesterol the better the patients health. They are talking total cholesterol as low as 84. I think this goes against much of the ideas that people in alternative medicine think. They have strong evidence that a low fat low protein vegetarian diet is the healthiest diet.

Guest guest
Alon, I've read the " China Study " as well. I wonder about 1. Genetics 2. Blood types 3. Exercise and how that fits into the Study. Guest guest
Koko it sounds like they controlled for these except genetics
Guest guest
I'm wondering if genetics is really crucial for dietary guidelines. Han people eating rice, millet and barley for thousands of years vs Latino people in the New World eating corn and beans for many generations for instance. or Northern nations people eating hardy meat for sustenance, while Southern peoples eating more fruits and all-year-long vegetables. If this is a major issue, than we have to rethink the China Study for the rest of the world's peoples. In this case, maybe the Primitive Diet would be helpful. Guest guest
Hi John, I side with the Paleolithic diet model clinically. I find the traditional Chinese model to be biased and mostly useless in the Western clinic. Although I would squelch that statement slightly by saying the Chinese model is a nice guideline...nothing more. Guest guest
Koko I only have one question..do we look at what looks like good evidence or do we believe in theories not backed up by large studies? i do not have the answer.. most of the higher protein advocates base their ideas on theories, blood work, and very short term studies..most of the evidence that supports as little animal food comes from large population studies all over the world not just China..these include europeans such as the Mediterranean diet. I guess this comes back to discussions we have regarding the differences between philosophical based medical systems vs empirical systems. 400 29th St. Suite 419 Oakland Ca 94609 alonmarcus
