You bring up a good point. If we were to stick to the classics, then we

should administer

based on the form of administration from the source texts.

 

Many tonics and emergency formulas are made into pill form... from the

original texts:

Liu wei di huang wan, Shen qi wan, Zuo gui wan, You gui wan, Da bu yin wan,

Ba wei di huang wan

An gong niu huang wan, Bao he wan, Da huang zhe chong wan, Er long zuo ci

wan, Fei er wan,

Fu zi li zhong wan, Gu jing wan, Gui zhi fu ling wan, Jin suo gu jing wan,

Li zhong wan,

Ma zi ren wan, Ming mu di huang wan, Qi ju di huang wan, Qing qi hua tan

wan, San/Si miao wan,

Si shen wan, Si sheng wan, Wu mei wan, Wu ren wan, Yue ju wan, Zhi bai di

huang wan,

Zhou che wan, Zhu sha an shen wan, Zuo jin wan

(mainly honey pills or the like meant to be chewed and mixed with salivary

enzymes)

So, a question is how did the formulators choose between san, tang, wan and

yin

in the administation methods of their 'babies'?

 

I've wondered if they had the technology that we have today in concentrated

granules,

if they would have used it (high surface area of decoctions, quick delivery

of powders

and retention of volatile oils as in honey pills) all in one.
