Guest guest
Hi all, Since the Herb/Formulas percentage of the CA state boards has dropped from 17% to 11%, for next January's exam, it might be useful to see what has also changed based on the 2008 Occupational Analysis Report. This will be a crucial adaptation for educators in the state of CA: *CA State Board Exam* *Previous percentages: New percentages: Change: * TCM diagnostics: ~ 37% *~ 28 % * * - 9 %* Acupuncture: 29% 32 % + 3 % Formulas/Herbs: 17% * 11 % * * - 6 %* Western: ~ 8% * ~ 22 % * * +14%* CNT/ Laws and Regs 9% 7 % - 2 % The new percentage of Western medical knowledge tested on the 2010 exam is from extrapolation of the subareas from Patient Assessment (33%) and Developing a Diagnostic Impression (17%), which include subareas of both TCM and Western Med. The increased integration of Western med with TCM is evidenced by the large increase (8% to 22%) for Western med knowledge. The Boards will test Western diagnostics (pharm, physical exam, lab tests), patient education (disease differentiation) and pharmaceutical knowledge. Another concern for Chinese medical practitioners is not just the decline in herbal/formulaism knowledge that is required for the CA boards, but also the sharp decline in the requirement for understanding TCM foundations and diagnosis (a 9% drop). Hope this helps to prepare for the future.... -- Turtle Island Integrative Health TCM Review director CA State Board Prep Courses www.tcmreview.com
