Hi All, & Eric,

Eric, my notes on Songhuafen - mainly from Chinese WWW - mention it as

a Yang Tonic.

 

However, though there are references to that in old Chinese sources, most

of those claims come mainly from sellers of male aphrodisiac formulas. Its

Fxs go way beyond being a Yang Tonic; it is classes as a health-food /

Functional Food, esp for geriatrics - best taken as Songhuajiu - Pine Pollen

Wine.

 

PINYIN NAME: Songhuafen ; Songhua , Songhuang ;

Songshuhuafen

 

LATIN NAME: Pollen Pini massonianae / tabulaeformis

 

ENGLISH NAME: Pine Pollen

 

HERB CLASS: Cannot find agreed class for it - do you know?

Thanks for the feedback Phil.

 

Phil, on an unrelated note... I once remember that you mentioned that the

veterinary acupuncture of today was largely a modern development. Do you know

anything about its history? You might be interested in an old book that I found

in Taiwan, it is a classical text called the Niu Ma Jing (Ox and Horse Classic).

It details acupuncture therapies for horses and cows (oxen), and it appears to

be a very old text, but I've not yet spent the time thoroughly researching its

origin. Anyway, I picked up the book and thought of you, I've only ever seen it

in Taiwan in traditional script.
