Wei Ling Xian and Fish bone in throat

I was at a seminar once, I think it was John or Alex Chen. Anyways, he said

they checked it out in China and determined that Wei Ling Xian doesn't

dissolve the fishbone. They tried it, it didn't work. What is does is relax

the muscles in the throat so that the fishbone will release.

Yes- in John Chen's " Chinese Medical Herbology and Pharmacology " He

states- " Classic texts state We Ling Xian " dissolves " fish bones that are

obstructing the throat. This statement, however, is not strictly correct, since

this herb does not literally " disolve " fish bones. Instead, Wei Ling Xian

relaxes the throat muscles, thereby helping to dislodge the obstruction. "

I heard the Vietnamese 'home remedy' is to swallow a large ball of rice, all at

once. I don't know if that's a safe thing to try or not, but seems that would

cause the muscles to have to expand quite a bit to allow the ball of rice to

pass. I think there was a Western based treatment which involved swallowing a

large piece of bread (same principles apply I suppose). Dissolving the fish

bone in the throat doesn't make any logical sense. I also heard a first-hand

report about using chronoacupuncture to cause a friend of mine to instantly

cough out the fish bone that was stuck in hear throat.
