Hi Zach,

May I ask why you are thinking of giving your patient Yunnan Bai Yao? Is she

having internal bleeding? If so, perhaps we can discuss a different

treatment strategy with herbs and food. Often women with postpartum heavy

bleeding present with (at least) Spleen Qi vacuity so treating the pattern

may be the best approach. Yunnan Bai Yao can cause blood clots which should

be carefully avoided. Also, because Yunnan Bai Yao is so powerful to

coagulate blood and stop bleeding, and because many medicinals enter the

breast milk, I would avoid administering this herb to the nursing mother, as

the baby does not have internal bleeding and there is potential for causing

blood stasis in the nursling.

Thank you for commenting.

It was more than a simple case of bleeding. It was complicated with what her MD

described as " internal bruising and swelling " with was causing prolonged pain.

The excessive bleeding subsided on it's own so I gave her a simple formula for

the blood stasis.

Her pain greatly diminished after a few doses.
