Huang Niu means cow, so it is quite possible > that the drug in question is actually cow's nose. The item Niu Bi is > used to treat absence of milk in women. This link has info (in > Chinese) on it: http://www.zysj.com.cn/zhongyaocai/yaocai_n/niubi.html Huangniubi (Yellow Ox Nose) is just a synonym for Niubi (Ox Nose). As Charolais, Simmenthals or Friesians are common European breeds of cattle, Huangniu (Yellow Cattle) are from a common Chinese breed. They are all cattle / cows / oxen. My summary of Eric´s reference is: Chinese Name: Niubi ; Huangniubi ; Shuiniubi ; Latin Name: Bovis tauri domestici / Bubali bubalis Nasus English Name: Ox / Buffalo Nose Source: nose of bovine animals , Yellow Cattle / water buffalo Nature + Channels: Neutral; Sweet; LU; ST; LV ACTIONS: Generate Jin-Fluids; Lactagogue; Ease Cough; USES: Wasting + Thirst (Xiaoke / Diabetes) ; agalactia; cough; face paralysis (mouth + eye askew) Dose: Oral (as food) cook + eat qs ; as Powder / Granules: 3g; as Topical: qs, broiled + applied (Zhire Tu ) NOTE: There is no reference there to an action to Calm Foetus. However, Niubi / Huangniubi is included in a formula to do just that - Baotai Niubi Wan (Protect Foetus (Px Miscarriage) Ox Nose Pill) See: http://tinyurl.com/yf96s2a [copy the translated text into Wenlin for better translation].
