Hello

Yet another newbie here (invited today). I'm 42, a divorced single

mom of a 17yr old boy. I've been a vegetarian off and on for about

20 years but firmly committed to vegetarianism since 2000. I had

worried my son would have a problem with it (including a 'kosher'

kitchen; no unmentionables there) but it has never been an issue. I

didn't make a big deal about it and consequently, neither has he.

It's not a choice I have forced him to make (or even asked him to

make) and in retrospect, I can't believe it was so easy (you'd have

to know this child to appreciate that). It could be that some of his

support is due to the 67 pounds he lost, going from a chunky 217lbs

to a svelte 150 and he likes his defined 'abs' (and the admiring

glances he gets from the neighborhood chicas).

Btw, I'm Kathleen, a NAFTA displaced needle-trades worker living

(for now) in El Paso TX USA. Originally I was a pattern maker but

through a series of coincidences, became an author (due to my

commitment toward social justice and sustainable economic

development) and wrote a book entitled The Entrepreneur's Guide to

Sewn Product Manufacturing to encourage responsible, intelligent,

sweat-shop-free entrepreneurship in the apparel industry. This is

not a sales pitch but I have a website at designer-entrepreneurs.com

if anyone is interested in the sewing industry. My personal website

will be up soon at kathleenfasanella.com and that site will be

more 'political' (and prolly less palatable to the powers that be,

lol) and more reflective of my personal lifestyle choices than my

business site. Albeit selfishly, I see nothing wrong with using my

personal influence to persuade others to consider a sane, healthy

and economically sustainable diet. Actually, I don't persuade at

all, just present information and I've managed to convert a few

(okay, 3 that I know of) of my readers.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this list. Here in the

southwestern US, we have a myriad of chile varieties so I am eager

to try some inspiring recipes.

best regards

Kathleen
