Guest guest
Hello all members! We think it's just about time that we all knew what rules we are playing by - so here they are ;=) - not much different from other lists, except perhaps for little bits about vegetarian things and recipes. It's just about what we are all doing now, but please check them all out anyway so that we are all sure that we all know them, okay? The idea is that it should go out to new members upon joining, of course. Since you never got one of these, this is 'new' to everyone already here. A copy will also go up in the files in case you lose this one ;=) TIA for reading on. Best, Vegetarian Spice Moderators ------- HOUSE RULES: KITCHEN ETIQUETTE FOR VEGETARIAN SPICE Every now and then we all need a bit of a reminder about posting to lists and about this list in particular. Just so we all know, here's some `rules' by which we play the game: 1. TRIMMING MESSAGES: Please trim so that all previous messages are deleted or retain (for sense or to alert one particular member) the part to which you are replying. If you are on *Digest*, please take special care to trim! 2. SUBJECT LINE: Please match subject line to content of the message. When deviating from the original topic, change your subject line accordingly. When responding to *Digest*, be especially careful to change the subject line! 3. OFF-TOPIC MESSAGES: Off-topic posts should have OT in the subject line. Please keep the number of OT posts down to a dull roar. 4. DISALLOWED POSTS: Here are the no-nos. a. No anti-vegetarian (or anti-vegan) remarks or discussion of topics offensive to vegans or vegetarians. b. No comments, remarks, jokes, etc., offensive to other minority groups. c. No spam - including commercial messages, appeals for money or goods, chain letters, virus warnings, political messages, etc. d. No flames (personal attacks) or `shouting' (all-capital-letter POSTS LIKE THIS) e. No `language' likely to offend and/or which is unsuitable for family viewing. f. No cross-postings from other persons or lists without permission of the originator of the post. No cross-postings from this list to others without similar permission. g. No attachments - the list is set to disallow them in any case so that will strip them from all posts automatically. 5. POSTING RECIPES: a. Put RECIPE in the subject lline in addition to the name of the recipe. b. Edit recipes to remove any and all references to non-vegetarian content, including such meat byproducts as gelatin. Eggs and dairy are allowed. c. Post only recipes that have been tested by the person posting. (We can all copy recipes from the net or from cookbooks; we want the tried and true here.) Comments on the recipe, including variations, are most welcome. d. Post all recipes first to the list, not directly to the Files, so that members can read them at leisure. e. It is assumed that most, though not necessarily all, recipes will follow the theme of the Vegetetarian *Spice* list. 6. MODERATION AND BANNING: New members are moderated until they have sent a few posts. Any member who sends disallowed posts will be put under moderation or banned. If in doubt about content acceptability, please send your prospective post with a query to the moderators at -owner 7. WEB FEATURES: a You are welcome to upload Photos, Files and Links (on topic and suitable for family viewing) to the Vegetarian Spice web page: / and/or to initiate an appropriate on-topic Poll. b. You may want to add your Homepage link and the link to email lists/groups ( or other) you own or moderate in the appropriate folders at the top of the Links page, noting those which have non-vegetarian content and bearing in mind suitability for family viewing. c. Photos and personal links are removed when you leave Vegetarian Spice. 8. YOUR PROFILE: Please ensure that your Profile is also suitable for family viewing. You can adopt an alternate one for the purpose of this list. 8. SETTINGS: There is a button for Edit My Membership on the top right of the Vegetarian Spice web page / If you don't wish to receive list posts in your mailbox, please set your preferences to Special Messages rather than No Mail so that, in an emergency, Moderators can contact everyone without difficulty. (You will note that you can also make other changes.) 9. MEMBERSHIP: Membership is currently open. Instructions for discontinuiing membership are at the foot of each email. 10. PROBLEMS: Any queries or problems, please refer to the moderators at -owner - not to the list. Thanks for reading this. Please keep it in a safe place so that you can refer to it if needed.
