See http://www.ivu.org/congress/1904 for details. ------------------------ SPAIN - VEGETARIAN CONGRESS First Vegetarian Congress promoted by the Spanish Vegetarian Union (UVE) October 9-12, 2004 Hotel Roca Esmeralda, Calpe (Alicante, Spain) The impressive rock " Penon de Ifach " , the most emblematic symbol of the Costa Blanca, will preside the First Vegetarian Congress promoted by the Spanish Vegetarian Union (UVE). The Congress will take place at the Hotel Roca Esmeralda, a 3 stars hotel located first line on the beach of Calpe (Alicante). This meeting will host outstanding activists of the vegetarian movement, and the programme will include workshops, conferences and debates on topics related to vegetarian diets, health and holistic development, animal rights and environmental protection. Also cookery demonstrations will be offered, there will be exhibitors with educational materials, books, etc., and additionally there will be some entertainment activities, excursions, etc. Lectures will be mainly in Spanish, but additional workshops in English can be scheduled if a group of foreign attendants signs up. Vegetarian/vegan food will be available as buffet meals, to meet everyone's requirements. The lecture will take place at King's College, University of London, 150 Stamford Street [near Waterloo Station] and will be introduced by Professor Tom Sanders, Head of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, a former PhD student of the late Dr Frey Ellis, who was a pioneer in the study of vegetarian nutrition. Several other distinguished professors and former students will be present, together with current students, nutritionists and representatives of vegetarian groups from the UK and abroad. Food for Life is the world's largest vegan food relief and currently serves free meals to the needy at a rate of one meal every second. More than 100 million free meals have been served since the program began 30 years ago in 1974. Food for Life Global - Volunteers Needed!
