Many thanks! > > Best, > > Pat ;=) sorry...i thought the members would be well acquainted with the spices and stuff. ok. you take about one to one and 1/2 (see...like that) tsp. of black mustard seed (they MUST be black...can be purchased in most indian or oriental spice stores) and about 1 tbsp. of oil (i ALWAYS use peanut oil when i'm cooking indian food). put oil in small saucepan and turn on the heat, tap your right foot whilst waiting for the oil to heat ;o)....when you begin to see a slight wisp of smoke--steam--whatever...small wisp, then you throw the mustard seed into the saucepan and use a spoon (preferably wooden or plastic spoon) just to spread seeds out so they're all on one level. then, again, tap your foot, left one, this time...and very soonly, you'll begin to hear little pops (sorta like when you pop popcorn in the nuker)...when you hear more pops, REMOVE POT FROM HEAT!! allow to cool for about 1 minute (tap both feet) and then, oil and seeds all, pour atop the kosambari. mix it well and top with coconut (here again, i don't use the type you use for cakes...too sweet...i use coconut kernels which i buy at spice store (even here in new hampshire we have one like that). i buy a BIG BAG for about $1.99 and keep in the freezer until i need it again. it stays frozen beautifully. ;o) hope this is better? Well, not of every spice and in every cuisine LOL We try to make each recipe complete in itself ;=) so that everyone can try any recipe, regardless of whether they've ever tasted that kind of food before. What we all have in common here is being vegetarian, including vegans and rawfoodists, and liking SPICE! But this is great. Easy, quick, and oh so tasty for a snack!
