A NEW NOT-RULE (YET): No more strange symbols. Key them in the old- fashioned way. I'm truly with laurieadrienne and Gypsy on this one - but it seemed to me that I was the only one and so I read all such on the web - it avoids all that problem. But it is inconvenient. Pretty much anything was okay when this list first started out mid-May, cuz we were small. But it's a bit bigger now - and I think we need to be more considerate of ALL people ALL the time, okay?LOL It's a tough world out there, but here it should be safe and warm and welcoming to everyone, regardless of computer of origin, race, religion, creed (whoops, wrong speech) ;=) Okay, let's just put it THIS way: Mac users from henceforth on this list will no longer consider themselves a persecuted minority. We will ask that ALL posters to the list, even if they chip the messages out in stone or inscribe them on a clay or wax tablet, write in crayon or whatever, will observe that we ALL need to be able to 'read' them without difficulty. AND, may I add, that includes those members who are unsighted and whose screenreaders may have trouble making sense of some of those strange characters that sometimes jump across the screen. They should be able to 'read' without difficulty. Make it easier for everyone, I figure ;=) AND NOW if there are problems reading, please simply ASK the poster to clarify - we all make mistakes, forget, whatever. If there are problems that are more than saying 'was that one-quarter cup, Pat, or 4 cups?' etc., and it is something that can be solved by the moderators, please address to the Moderators: -owner That way we won't be bothering a whole list about something that is more easily solved elsewhere ;=) Not that we're not all interested . . . . . So there you go. A NEW NOT-RULE (YET): No more strange symbols, okay? Key them in the old-fashioned way! As you were, ladles and jellyspoons ;=) (And thank you, laurieadrienne, for clarifying (everyone see below). Best, Pat ;=) > The issue is that special characters typed on a PC don't > translate correctly to the non-PC world. Hee hee! Pat, you crack me up about chipping messages out of stone! LOL! > AND, may I add, that includes those members who are unsighted and whose > screenreaders may have trouble making sense of some of those strange > characters that sometimes jump across the screen. I'm sure that you're right that software that " speaks " words for unsighted people would not know how to interpret special characters. > AND NOW if there are problems reading, please simply ASK the poster to > clarify - we all make mistakes, forget, whatever. Y'know, this raises another issue that has been on my mind. I feel bad when I post recipes using non-metric measurements cuz I know this doesn't translate to many folks in the world. When I post recipes I'd be happy to also include metric measurements if only I knew what they were. (Sadly, they don't teach us this here.) Does anyone have a conversion list they could post here, maybe in the files section, if that's okay with Pat and Mark? Again, I don't feel this should be a rule, but I'm happy to include this conversion as a courtesy to others. Laurie

Guest guest
> TADAAA!!! http://www.sciencemadesimple.net/conversions.html Thanks for the link to and from metric measurements, Beth. I've bookmarked it - and I shall also put it somewhere in the Links section ;=) However, I think it would be difficult for members to have to convert every time they want to post a recipe. If you can manage that, fine. If not, then I think that this link of Beth's will help us all to convert when we want to *make* the recipe. Good idea.
