Guest guest
I am smiling at the recent posts on nuking potatoes and popcorn - very simplified cuisine indeed! (and not that there's anything wrong with that, as Seinfeld would say ;=)) Is this a new anti- or post-Thanksgiving trend??? Let me play mama for a moment (oh-oh - here she goes again!): snacks are fine, but guys and gals you gotta *eat*. One reason I like the kinds of recipes posted to this list is that they prove once and for all that veg*n food does not have to be boring, that you don't have to be terribly innovative trying to make vegetable matter look and taste like me*t dishes, and that there already exist in the world cuisines that have long been either veg*n because of religious/philosophical reasons or largely veg*n from custom. A few spices and a little preparation can turn out absolutely wonderful healthy and *tasty* vegetarian meals. In the coming weeks most of the (so-called 'western') world will continue to eat 'comfort food' and eat and eat and eat. We can afford it; we can do it. So where's the challenge? The real challenge is to make this food *not* like the comfort food eaten by non-vegetarians but our own newly styled favourite foods that give us pleasure and contribute to our wellbeing without destroying other creatures, the planet, our health or our consciousness of what is right. Sheeeeesh, that's a whole load of stuff for any recipe to carry! LOL And who asked me to get on a soapbox this fine (not yet raining) Saturday morning! :=( Soon I'll be heading up the road to the healthfood shop - that should cure me! LOL Best, Pat ;=)
