If you don't have that much patience and don't like grinding

things, you can still make very good idlis using an idli mix, for

example the " GITS Idli Mix " that you can buy for about $1.50-$2.

The rice and lentils are already ground thus the soaking time is

very short. Raising agent replaces fermenting.

Idli mixes work very nicely, I recommend them.

In case you are curious, the ingredients of idli mix are:

idli mix: Rice flour, lentils flour, salt, raising agents (citric

acid, sodium bicarbonate), fenugreek powder and acidity regulator

(sodium acetate).

You have to have sambhar with idlis. You can have quick sambhar too.

For example GUTS sambhar mix, sells for about $1-$2. You need to add

tomatos. I also also recommend adding one chopped okra, or other

vegetable of your choice.

Ingredients of a sambhar mix are:

Sambhar mix: lentils, dehydrated onions, salt, sugar, hydrogenated

vegetable oil, tamarind powder, coriander seeds, red chilli powder,

dehy. potatoes, mustard seeds, dehy. curry leaves, citric acid,

black pepper powder, asafoedita, fenugreek, turmeric powder.

Since here I have mentioned two mixes, let me judge them using the

criteria I presented in

/message/2014

GITS Idli mix:

appearance: +1

flavor: 0

taste: +1

texture: +1

Overall rating: **** (out of *****). I recommend it.

GITS Sambhar mix:

appearance: +1

flavor: 0

taste: 0 to +1

texture: +1

Overall rating: *** or **** (out of *****). I recommend it.

They are both great values and are very popular. You could be eating

idli-sambhar within 30 minutes.

What do you guys think of these two mixes?

Hi ya'll,

I'd like to try both mixes, anyone know a web site where I can order

them and other ingredients? I live in a small town in Texas, many of

the ingredients in these wonderful sounding recepies I'm dying to

try aren't available locally.

Peace and love,

Angela
