Guest guest
Good morning boys & girls! My SIL made this at Thanksgiving & I liked it so much I got the recipe & made it to go with Christmas dinner. It is awesome. *smooch* Bethie Spicy Apple Pear Chutney 2 cups peeled, diced Granny Smith apples (about 2 large) 1 cup peeled , diced pear (about 1 large) 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 cup cider vinegar 1/2 cup raisens or currents 1/2 cup diced onion 1 tsp. grated ginger 1/2 tsp. red pepper flakes 1/4 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 tsp. ground cloves 1. Place the ingredients in a large nonaluminum or nonstick pan. Cook the mixture over low heat for about 1 hour. 2. Pack the chutney into hot sterilized canning jars, cover the jars, and process the chutney for 10 minutes in a boiling water bath. makes about 3 half pints. Enjoy! The all-new My – What will yours do?
Guest guest
And good morning (and smooch - huh???) to you too LOL Here you are, in the nick of time, to save us all! The chutney recipe sounds great! And easy, too, which is what I like. No boring meals in your house! Hmm, now how to get around the fact that I don't have canning jars (and resist canning as I would a whole bunch of things you don't want to hear about) and yet love chutney . . . . In any case, I'll definitely try this one - one way or another. One apple and half a pear maybe. Or does it all mush down nicely anyway and therefore could be frozen without destroying the texture? Not awake yet LOL Best love, Pat ;=) > Good morning boys & girls! My SIL made this at Thanksgiving & I liked it so much I got the recipe & made it to go with Christmas dinner. It is awesome. Guest guest
We quite look forward to 'boring' meals occasionally. we call em comfort food! As for the recipe, yes of course it would keep for several days (you can tell I've had my coffee now!) - if my dh didn't nibble at it every time he opened the fridge. It's not fair - he can eat almost anything. (Well, he'd say that's not true - and it's rarely true of the people of whom one says that. They're just more disciplined than those of us who 'only have to look at food' to gain weight.) Best, Pat > Nah, we occasionally have a boring meal if i'm not feeling inspired, lol. The recipe doesn't make a lot (+/- 3c) & it will keep for several days. I left the canning info in just for the hex of it. IMO, the recipe doesn't make enough to can - I'd quadruple it for that!! I don't know about freezing. Haven't tried it. I doubt it would last long enough to worry about it anyway. Now go get some coffee!!
