Guest guest
1) What is your name or what would you like to be called? Lynn 2) How old are you (roughly)? young senior citizen 3) Where do you live (what country - what town, city or region)? Bryan, Ohio USA (closest cities are Fort Wayne IN, Detroit MI & Toledo OH with Fort Wayne being somewhat closer than the other two; also closer to Chicago than Cleveland) 4) How long have you been a vegetarian/vegan, or how long have you been interested in cooking vegetarian food? Although I'm not a vegetarian, I have been interested in veg. food since a child. I have a great respect for both the ethical and well-being (health) aspects of vegetarianism. North Americans generally do pursue an healthy diet and very few non-vegetarians realize how many wonderful vegetables, fruits, nuts and grains are out there. Vegetarians I know tend to be very good cooks (So am I, which I say myself since nobody else hear can attest to it) and I should like to learn more about vegetarian cooking. Besides, I've always loved a variety of vegetables and fruits. 5) What is your favorite (vegetarian) food? That I make: Vegetarian Vegetable Soup. It's never the same twice, but always good! Mild or spicy depending on who else is eating it. Corn on the Cob (cooked properly---never boiled!!) That interest me: ethnic foods, especially Asian and African, much more of which is vegetarian than the foods commonly associated with Western Europe and the Americas 6) Why did you join the group (apart from receiving an invitation)? Several reasons: 1] to read recipes and get ideas (I almost never actually follow a recipe, but create my own as I'm cooking. Reading new recipes gives me new ideas!) 2] To learn new ways of combining spices for unique taste sensations. I currently stock and use 40 some herbs and spices, less than half as many as I want, but the budget... 3] learn more about substituting ingredients. When I decide to cook something I like to use what I have on hand and not have to go out to get more ingredients, so learning what creates a taste like something else is important to me. 7) Is there anything specific you want to get out of the group? See answers to Question 6. 8) Tell us a few of your favorite things. Dogs (especially spotted dogs), architectural design (as the designer), Science Fiction & Fantasy (reading and writing), Mysteries (reading and writing), Fantasy Role Playing (for example, Dungeons & Dragons---I'm a Dungeon Master), psychology, politics, mental health, human rights issues, ecology, history, archeology, anthropology, theology, all creative arts (including, of course, cooking) and a lot more. I am an activist in my political party, my church, mental health groups, ecology, human rights. Most of my friends consider me a gourmet cook although I know the difference and I'm definitely not. I'm co-owner of a dog group (the link should be there since the other co-owner has been a member Vegetarian Spice from its beginning.) I also sing (either tenor or baritone, prefer tenor) and occasionally write music. I am especially opposed to " fast food " and altered food (genetic manipulation, chemically, by radiation, by overuse of pesticides, herbicides and fertilizer, etc.) I've gone on long enough to bore everyone, so I'll close now.
